Vocational Program
- Students need to display safe behaviors at school and on the residential unit to be eligible for volunteering.
- For the younger students, there is a focus on career exploration where they sample and discuss different career paths while practicing transferable skills that can apply to a wide range of jobs.
- Students in grades K-4 will have an opportunity to complete school/pavilion based jobs weekly.
- The school/pavilion based tasks that the students complete while volunteering include but aren’t limited to cleaning, organizing, car detailing, sorting, library management, computer lab management, and secretarial work.
- For the older students, there is a focus on creating professional resumes and cover letters while practicing independent living skills and money management. We want our students to be fully prepared for future job applications, interviews, orientations, career jobs, budgeting, and living independently.
- Students in grades 5-12 will have an opportunity to volunteer at the job sites during school hours.
- Our students have volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, Salt and Light, Hospice Hearts Animal Rescue, Restoration Ministries Food Pantry, Little Hearts & Hands, Circle of Friends, Eastern Illinois Food Bank and Logistics Natural Hair Care.
- The tasks that the students complete while volunteering include but aren’t limited to cleaning, organizing, restocking, sorting, entertaining, care taking, lifting, tagging, pricing, and packaging.
- Several of the students receive positive feedback each time they volunteer from direct supervisors, colleagues, and the job coach.
